Recreation
Our Recreation Department is run by our new Director of Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator, Marcie Forsythe, who has her Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation and is also a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Our new Assistant Director of Recreation is Breelan Ward, who has her Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation and an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Laurie Hultberg, Recreation Assistant, has been with Ithacare/Longview for some thirty years. John Kumpf, Horticulturist, looks after the greenhouse along with Longview's grounds, and assists residents with their gardens. The goal of the Recreation Department is to provide residents with opportunities to maintain and/or enhance an overall quality of life through cognitive, social, physical and spiritual programming.

- Body Power: A broad range of exercises are offered from daily half-hour chair exercise, water exercise in our pool, basic instruction in our exercise room, and classes such as tai chi and yoga. The outside trails, located at the edge of our parking area, are favorite walking spots for our residents who want a breath of fresh air and the peace and enjoyment the woods have to offer. A popular Longview event during the warmer seasons is the Wednesday Picnic in the Park at Stewart Park along the base of Cayuga Lake. Residents enjoy lunch, a friendly game of horseshoes, walks, or simply enjoying the day with each other and the staff who join in on the fun.
- Brain Power: through our program-driven relationship with Ithaca College, we offer the Ithaca College Speaker Series. Once a month, professors from different disciplines give a presentation to our residents on a variety of topics, such as travel presentations, literature and poetry. College classes are also offered to any resident who chooses to take them.
- Art and Music: Transportation is offered to residents who enjoy going to concerts, musicals and plays at Ithaca College. We also offer musical events at Longview, and when weather permits, take outings to local events in the area. The art classes we offer include working with clay, water painting and oil painting.
- Intergenerational: Through the Head Start program that is housed at Longview, and the relationship we have with Ithaca College and its students who intern and volunteer to assist Marcie, Laurie and Bree, our residents have ample opportunity to enjoy intergenerational activities. A favorite is the Intergenerational Choir.
- Spiritual: Chapel services are offered for many different faiths in our all-denominational chapel, as well as other activities and services.
