Assisted Living

Residents who want to live in Assisted Living must be essentially independent with activities of daily life. This means that a resident needs to be able to feed, toilet, ambulate, transfer and dress his/her self. Residents may use assistive devices or equipment (such as walkers and wheelchairs) as needed to maintain their independence but must be able to get to the dining room, where all meals are served, on their own. A Resident Aide (RA) is present during all meals for minimal assistance. There is a nutritional consultant on staff to monitor residents’ diets.

RAs are on duty 24 hours a day. They administer medications to the residents from the Medication Room, assist with showers as needed, a whirlpool bath once a week, if desired, and are available at all times to respond to emergencies. A Registered Nurse is on the floor during business hours to monitor residents’ medications, and record any medication changes. The RN is also available for consultations with the RAs and assessments of all Assisted Living residents.

A social worker is available to provide admission and discharge information, case management, counseling, and assistance with problem-solving.

If you decide you would like to apply for admission or, if uncertain, a respite stay, there are several pages of an application form to be completed, as well as a medical evaluation which the applicant’s doctor must fill out and sign. The doctor’s evaluation must be based on an exam within 30 days of admission. Upon admission, a fee of $600 plus a security deposit equal to the monthly fee is required. The first month’s rent is usually pro-rated from the date of admission.

If you would like to know more about monthly charges, or have questions, or would like to tour our Assisted Living floor, contact Claudia Stoscheck, Assisted Living Case Manager at 607 375-6320 or email cstoscheck@ithaca.edu.
